About Taxidermist John Gordon and Summit Taxidermy

John Gordon has been involved in the Taxidermy industry for more than 25 years and has operated his own studio, for the last 20, which is located is a short 40 minute drive south-west of Calgary, Alberta.

John is a founding member and Director of the Professional Taxidermist Association of Alberta. He is also a Safari Club International Master Measurer.

John has competed twice in Taxidermy competitions. In 1995 he was the recipient of the Jack Wilson Memorial Award and the People's Choice Award at the ITC competition, held in Calgary, Alberta, for an entry of a Wolverine and a Raven. In 1996, he again received the Jack Wilson Memorial Award for an entry of a Cougar and a Coyote.

AWARDS:

  • Two time winner of the Jack Wilson Memorial Award for the entry in Master Division that best represents Taxidermy as a true wildlife art form. The recipient of this award is chosen by the judges and other entrants in the competition.
  • Best of Category Master Division
  • ITC People's Choice Award

Since 1981 John has also guided cougar hunters in Alberta in association with Gordon Burton of Double Diamond Outfitters. This collaboration has provided him with an opportunity to study and photograph live cougars in close proximity and to measure and weigh many of these impressive predators. This knowledge has proved invaluable, not only in his taxidermy work, but especially for sculpting mannikins for Summit's line of premium Cougar Forms.
